United States Government donation of a case tracking system for the State Prosecutors

 June 24, 2008

On Monday, June 23, 2008, the U.S. Embassy, the Office of the Chief State Prosecutor and IBM will hold an official ceremony at the State Prosecutor’s Office at 11 am for the donation of the case tracking system.

The U.S. is pleased to support the work of the Chief State Prosecutor to continue to prosecute serious crime including war crimes.  Towards that end, the U.S. Embassy has provided a grant worth $175,000 to IBM for the development, installation, and training of a case tracking system for the State Prosecutors.  The case tracking system will be installed in four pilot locations at the Offices of the State Prosecutors in Zagreb, Karlovac, Zlatar and Pula.

The system will improve the effectiveness and efficiency of state prosecutors in criminal proceedings by introducing a modern case tracking administration system.  The case tracking software should provide real time access to case status information, facilitate control of case flow, improve supervision of the work of individual prosecutors, provide for their objective evaluation, and reduce the opportunity for internal corruption.

In addition, the U.S. Department of Justice and the U.S. Embassy have provided video conferencing equipment to the Chief State Prosecutor. A total of seven video conferencing systems were installed and linked together in Zagreb, Rijeka, Pula, Vukovar, Osijek, Dubrovnik and Split.  These conferencing systems will be used by prosecutors from the Office of the State Attorney and USKOK and will enable prosecutors from throughout Croatia to discuss and view evidence from the different locations.  The system will also enable the prosecutors to interview witnesses from offices across the country.  The U.S. remains committed to supporting prosecutors in their fight against serious crime including war crimes, organized crime, and corruption.
